You feel…. Drained. Anxious. Uneasy. Not good enough.

I work with busy teens and young women who are looking for relief from these complex and difficult emotions. My ideal client might feel “stuck” in a relationship, want to communicate more effectively, have difficulty navigating conflict, constantly overthink situations, or want to fill an empty void in their life.

Therapy with me is genuine and authentic.  I want my clients to feel heard and validated in a space where vulnerability is welcomed with open arms. My approach to counseling is conversational and natural as we build trust together from session to session.  The agenda for our sessions is flexible; I’ll follow your lead and explore the topics that are most important to you. Sessions may be challenging at times, when sitting in uncomfortable emotions, but rest assured, we will sit in the discomfort together.

What it’s like to work with me:

  • Teens

Let’s face it, sometimes teens can be challenging to connect with.  Maybe you’ve tried previous therapists and they were “too old,” “didn’t understand them,” or “talked down to them.”  I strive to meet my teens where they are at.  I keep myself up to date on the current trends, stressors, and challenges their generation is facing. As a younger provider with a smaller age gap, teens often feel comfortable being themselves in session.

  • Young Women

As a young woman with anxiety myself, I get it! I’ve been there.  You may be questioning your career choice, navigating dating in today’s complex world,  coping with big life changes, managing finances, and dealing with societal pressures when it comes to appearance. When appropriate, I may disclose my personal lived experience with the hopes of showing you that you are not alone in feeling this way. Navigating adulthood is tough and no one prepares us for this.

SPECIALTIES

Types of Treatment:

  • Person-Centered Therapy

Person centered therapy is client-centered, offering unconditional positive regard, empathy, genuineness and more. Through the therapist-client relationship, it is believed the client should gain the tools for promoting positive change.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Backed by research, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that is founded on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected.  It is believed that by changing our thought patterns and behaviors, we can improve our mental health challenges.

  • Therapy with me is:

-The client guides the session and I follow; whatever the client brings to the session is what we focus on during that 50-minute time slot.  There is no fixed agenda.

-Genuine! We laugh a lot, and sometimes we cry!  I am also human and have emotions.  I care a lot about my clients, and when heavy stuff comes up, I feel for them.

-Conversational.  Backed by current science and research, my practice is grounded in better understanding yourself by talking through your challenges.

-Ready to do the work! I will push you in the best way possible.  If you are not open to change or vulnerability, then you might not be ready for therapy yet.

  • Therapy with me isn't:

-A place where you leave therapy feeling judged, unappreciated, and scrutinized for the feelings you have or choices you’ve made.

-Advice giving.  Sometimes people come to therapy wanting advice.  Instead, I help you explore your own thoughts and feelings to make informed decisions.

-A magic fix. Therapy requires time, effort, and commitment.  Some people complete therapy in weeks and some are ongoing for years.  Progress can be gradual and will look different from person to person.

-Continuing to practice strategies that are ineffective or counterproductive. If it doesn’t work for you, we will work together to explore alternate ways to cope.

Clients describe me as:

“Calm and friendly demeanor”

“She offers a judgment free space filled with compassion.”

“So welcoming & comforting!”

Why Simply Present Counseling?

Simply Present Counseling was created to work with teens and young adult women who are experiencing anxiety or worry in one or more areas of their life.  With anxiety, we often perseverate on events or conversations that have happened in the past, or anticipate stressors for the future.  By being “simply present”, we can focus on the current moment and regain the control we once had.
